The Cabinet has approved legislative changes to recognise pregnancy-related sick leave for contractual and substitute female teachers, Education Minister Athina Michaelidou announced today.
The decision extends sick leave entitlements during pregnancy to educators employed on temporary contracts, addressing a gap in employment protections for non-permanent teaching staff.
Michaelidou described the move as “a significant step supporting female educators” in a social media post announcing the Cabinet decision.
The legislative amendment ensures that days taken off due to pregnancy-related illness will be formally recognised for contractual and substitute teachers.
“We continue to promote policies that strengthen equal rights, respect motherhood and upgrade education,” Michaelidou stated in her announcement of the Cabinet approval.
