Bus company workers in Cyprus will stage a two-hour work stoppage on Friday 27 March, in protest at what they say are the dangers posed by the photo-enforcement camera system for professional drivers.
The stoppage will run from 09:00 to 11:00, according to an announcement by the workers, signed by the OMEPEGE SEK AND SEGDAMELIN PEO trade unions.
Employees say they have repeatedly raised the issue with the Ministry of Transport, but that no meaningful solution has been found.
They have proposed installing red-light warning systems to give drivers advance notice, arguing that sudden braking creates serious passenger safety risks.
The announcement stressed that a bus cannot stop abruptly — both because of its size and because it carries passengers, many of whom are seated without seatbelts or are standing.
Workers apologised for any inconvenience the stoppage may cause to the travelling public.
