Two brothers wanted for the attempted murder of a man in Limassol have been handed over to Cypriot authorities after British Bases police caught them trying to flee by boat.
The brothers are accused of involvement in the stabbing of a 36-year-old on Anexartisias Street in Limassol on Saturday 20 December. The victim was left in critical condition in intensive care with a wound to his left shoulder blade.
British Bases authorities spotted the men during a routine maritime patrol. When police moved in to check the boat, the brothers sped up and tried to escape, triggering a chase.
Larnaca Port Police joined the pursuit. After a coordinated operation, officers immobilised the boat and arrested both men.
The brothers are expected to be interrogated and brought before Limassol District Court tomorrow, Wednesday, where prosecutors will seek their remand. Police are also searching for the father of one brother, who allegedly helped them after the attack.
According to police, the 36-year-old was standing outside a café in Limassol when a group attacked him. They first used electrical discharge devices, then one person stabbed him with a sharp object.
An ambulance rushed the victim to a private hospital in Limassol. Medical staff said his condition was critical and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
