British passenger arrested at Paphos Airport carrying 45,000 untaxed cigarettes

On December 6, 2025, Customs Department officers at Paphos Airport intercepted a British national based on intelligence assessment before her departure for the United Kingdom. The passenger’s luggage contained large quantities of tobacco products.

The products lacked mandatory warnings about the harmful nature of smoking in both Greek and Turkish, as well as the required security feature and unique traceability code. These omissions indicated the products were untaxed.

Specifically, officers found and confiscated 225 cartons, each containing 200 cigarettes, across the passenger’s three suitcases.

The passenger was arrested for clear-cut offences and taken into custody. She is expected to appear before the Paphos District Court today, Sunday, where police will request her four-day remand.
