Cyprus faces deteriorating weather from Saturday with rain and a noticeable temperature drop until Monday, the Department of Meteorology has forecast.
Panagiotis Lingis, a meteorological officer, said a colder air mass is entering the region and will gradually affect the island.
Rain phenomena will start gradually this afternoon in the mountains and western areas, with isolated showers expected tonight in the mountains and western half of the island, Lingis said.
Saturday will begin with isolated rain mainly in the west and north, developing into local rain during the afternoon and evening. More widespread rain is expected from Saturday night through Sunday morning, with snowfall forecast for the higher mountains as temperatures drop.
The weather is expected to ease after Sunday midday, but temperatures will continue falling. By Monday, temperatures are forecast to drop by around 5°C compared to today’s levels.
The normal temperature for this time of year is around 16°C, similar to today and tomorrow’s expected temperatures, Lingis said. From Saturday afternoon to Sunday midday, local rain is expected in many areas with possibly isolated brief thunderstorms.
