Bases arrest man suspected of 12 burglaries and thefts in Akrotiri

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with 12 burglaries, acts of malicious damage and thefts in Akrotiri over recent months, SBA Police announced.

The man from Akrotiri was arrested on 8 January after police inquiries linked him to the cases and recovered stolen property. The incidents had become a significant concern for residents in the British base area.

Theft remains one of the top five priorities for SBA Police due to its direct impact on community safety and quality of life.

Detective Inspector Yiannos Karkanias from the Criminal Investigations Department credited close cooperation between police and the local community as key to the arrest.

“We identified these cases as a critical community concern that required immediate attention,” Karkanias said. “Through effective intelligence gathering and a focused, coordinated approach, we were able to secure vital evidence, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of stolen property.”

He urged residents to take proactive measures to protect their property and report suspicious activity, reaffirming the force’s commitment to enhancing public safety and safeguarding the community.
