Bars, restaurants filled up during holiday season

Celebrations and festivities thrived across Cyprus during the Christmas and New Year holidays, with entertainment and recreation centres experiencing an 85% to 90% surge in activity, as reported by Neophytos Thrasyvoulou, the president of the Federation of Entertainment, Recreation, and Events Centers (Osykede).

Thrasyvoulou attributed the heightened attendance to favourable weather conditions and highlighted the commendable performance of cities such as Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, and Famagusta.

Taverns, restaurants, and music and dance venues all operated efficiently, contributing to the overall festive atmosphere.

Even the city of Chrysochous and the mountain resorts witnessed a similar uptick in patronage.

Addressing post-holiday plans, Thrasyvoulou mentioned that numerous businesses in coastal cities anticipate temporary closures for renovation purposes in preparation for the upcoming tourist season.

Meanwhile, in Limassol and Nicosia, a decline in attendance is foreseen due to the return of students to their respective study destinations.

In advocating for an extended tourist season, Thrasyvoulou stressed the importance of starting the season on February 20, aiming to bolster the food and beverage industry and, consequently, support the local economy.
