Arson destroys three luxury cars at Russian businessman’s Limassol car wash

Three luxury vehicles were completely destroyed in an arson attack at a car wash in Limassol in the early hours of Monday, prompting investigations by the Fire Service and Police.

The vehicles — two BMWs and a Porsche — were parked in an open, fenced area at the car wash when the fire broke out. Members of both services conducted on-site examinations at first light, and authorities confirmed the fire was the result of a malicious act.

Two of the vehicles belong to customers of the Russian businessman who owns the car wash, according to philenews sources. The vehicles appeared not to have registration numbers. It is not known whether they were insured.

Limassol CID investigators are examining the case, including locating and collecting CCTV footage from the area, whilst taking statements to clarify the incident and the motives behind the arson attack on the foreign businessman.

The case may be connected to a previous luxury vehicle arson incident that targeted a well-known 40-year-old foreigner, a close associate of Stavros Demosthenous, in which four of his vehicles were destroyed.

Investigators believe the persons behind the attacks may be seeking to pressure businessmen operating in Limassol, possibly in relation to protection or business activities.

Authorities are examining all possibilities.
