The Animattikon Project, the international animation festival returns for its sixth edition this week with events running from Thursday to Saturday at Rialto Theatre. A diverse selection of 52 animated short films from 18 countries will be screened this year, covering the entire spectrum of the international independent scene.
Apart from the screenings, the festival will also host lectures, workshops and exhibitions centred around the art of animation and for the first time this year will showcase the art of motion graphics. Under the title MO (Motion Graphics Showcase), this parallel event will present an exhibition of motion graphics films at Art Studio55.
On the opening day of Animattikon Project, a discussion titled Let’s Talk About the Animation Industry! will kick off events, at the Photography Studio of the Cyprus University of Technology at 6.30pm. An hour later, a lecture will follow on Re-imagining Identity: Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away as a critique of the modern conception of borders, boundaries and identities.
Then 10 animated short films for the Official Selection will be screened at Rialto. The Motion Graphics Showcase Opening Party will conclude day one’s events at Studio 55, around 10pm.
On Friday night, 15 animated documentaries, video clips and music videos will entertain audiences. Saturday’s events will begin at 5pm with animated films for children at Rialto Theatre. At 7pm the Imagine: Lemesos 2030 will take place at the University’s Photography Studio before 14 international and Cypriot student animation short films are screened at Rialto.
After the screenings, this 6th edition will wrap up with the awards ceremony. Extending the Project’s actions a little more is a special Halloween event that is set for October 31 at Craft Bar in Paphos. The night will screen eight special Halloween shorts, starting at 8pm.
