The Animal Party Cyprus has demanded an investigation after a pony died during Christmas celebrations in Prastio Kellakiou, with the animal’s body discarded or buried without authorities requesting explanations.
One of two ponies brought by private individuals for the village’s Christmas events on 12-13 December died either from cold or incorrect feeding, according to the party’s statement.
“Unfortunately, once again in another serious case, the animal died and the necessary and legal procedures were not taken regarding permits, stabling and the welfare of the animal,” the party said.
The statement added that the animal “died (they told us it perished) and they threw it away or buried it without any service requesting explanations and without further investigations to establish and assign responsibilities where and as appropriate.”
The party called on the Prastio Kellakiou Community Council, Moni Police Station and veterinary services to investigate what it described as a “very serious incident.”
“We call immediately on the Community Council of Prastio Kellakiou, the Veterinary Services and the Police to immediately investigate this very serious incident and for the innocent – guilty to be brought where they deserve,” the statement said.
The ponies were brought for the celebrations following a Community Council decision, the party said, adding that it would monitor the case and provide updates on progress.
