Anastasia Sophocli Panayi, recognised as the oldest woman in Cyprus, has died at the age of 105.
Originally from Syrkania in the occupied Kythrea, Panayi passed away on Wednesday.
Her death marks the end of a long life that spanned over a century of Cypriot history, witnessing the island’s transition from British colonial rule to independence and the subsequent displacement following the 1974 invasion.
The funeral service for Panayi will be held on Thursday, 18 December, at the Holy Temple of Apostle Andreas in Platy, Aglantzia. The service is scheduled to begin at 11:00, with the family receiving condolences at the church from 10:00.
