Sirens sounded at Akrotiri at 09:52 on Friday, with the British Bases issuing a message to residents of the Akrotiri district minutes later warning of an ongoing security threat.
According to Mayor of Kourion Pantelis Georgiou, the message was received at 09:58. It read: “For Akrotiri Residents Only. There is an ongoing security threat. Please remain indoors and stay in place until further official notice. Move away from windows and take cover behind or beneath substantial, solid furniture. Please await further instruction.”
The British Bases subsequently confirmed that the security incident had concluded and that restrictions on movement had been lifted.
