Airport shuttles to be increased

Kapnos Airport Shuttle is stepping up the frequency of its bus routes, while the company has invested to increase its fleet, its CEO announced on Tuesday.

The goal for 2023 is to have 100 routes per day to and from Larnaca and Paphos airport, CEO Pambos Kapnos said. This is feasible, he told reporters, as post-Covid the number of passengers going to airports is steadily increasing.

Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, who heralded the development, stressed the importance of having safe buses, timely bus routes and respect for passenger needs.

This will inevitably impact the culture on the island to increase use of public transport and reduce the use of private vehicles, he said.

Consequently, this will reduce pollution and traffic on the streets.

Kapnos said though things were difficult in the beginning, patience and perseverance has shifted the culture to allow people to use buses to and from the airports.

The company offers free parking for those using buses to the airport. It also allows passengers to check in for their flights, print their boarding passes and weigh their luggage.

For June, July and August, Kapnos Airport Shuttle will also offer families or groups of five and more, free transport from their stay to the bus station.

Furthermore, the company’s office in Solomou square will be improved and a new online system to reserve and pre-pay tickets is ready. The company has special buses for disabled people and five new buses have been added to the fleet – with five more to come by the end of the year.

The CEO highlighted that despite the challenges during the three years of the pandemic, no staff have been fired and the company is now on the lookout for more original and innovative paths forward.

In his closing speech, noting the company’s proud contribution to reducing pollution and traffic he said “flights are delayed but Kapnos is always on time.”
