The French-Cypriot School (Ecole Franco-Chypriote de Nicosie – EFCN) in its present form, with over 10 years of successful educational service, constitutes a development of the French School which was housed in the centre of Nicosia from 1987, based on an agreement with the Agency for French Education Abroad (Agence pour l’enseignement francais a l’etranger – AEFE) and in 2012, based on a bilateral agreement between the Cypriot and the French governments the private non-profit making “French-Cypriot School” (‘Ecole Franco-Chypriote – EFCN) is founded, remaining as a member of AEFE which today numbers 580 schools, in 139 countries with nearly 390.000 students.
The French-Cypriot School (EFCN) is recognized by the Ministries of Education of France and Cyprus and is fully harmonized with the Private Schools Law of 2019 and 2020. It is managed by the Headmaster/mistress and the assistant Headmaster/mistress in cooperation with the Management Committee which is elected at the General Assembly of the «Parents’ and Guardians’ Association of the Students of the French-Cypriot School of Nicosia». The ordinary members of the school comprise all the parents or legal guardians of the students who attend the School each time.
The activities of the School concern the operation of classes from kindergarten (Μaternelle) up to the last class of the Lyceum. For the current school year, the school hosts around 430 students of 25 nationalities in Limassol and Nicosia.
The French-Cypriot School follows the French educational course of studies, which offers the students the foundations for a truly European culture and identity. Entry to the school is at the age of 2 and continues up to graduation (baccalaureat). The main teaching language is French and the students may choose between French and bilingual academic courses. In the bilingual course, students are taught both in French and in Greek, following the course of the Ministry of Education of Cyprus. All students are taught English from 3 years of age and at the age of 12 they have the possibility of being taught German or Spanish. Moreover, one of the main educational goals of the AEFE schools is multilingualism which undoubtedly constitutes a huge advantage, key to success both in studies as well as in finding employment.
Our graduates know at least 4 languages: English, French, Greek, German or Spanish.
The students of the School prepare themselves for the French Baccalauréat, which allows free access to all the Universities of France as well as all the Institutions of Higher Education internationally. French tertiary education and the French higher educational institutions are subsidized by the French state and are free of charge, moreover, scholarships are offered to the graduates with the best achievements.
The Library (Bibliothèque, Centre de Documentation) and the Centre of Knowledge and Culture (Centre de connaissances et de culture) also support the whole educational project. All the students visit the library once a week to borrow books or to study.
In the afternoons the students may participate in afternoon activities (tennis, dancing, wrestling, football, golf) and other activities.
The school offers a choir, under the direction of a well-known artist, who offered the opportunity to the students to sing at the Pallas Theatre in Nicosia and the European Parliament in Strasbourg!
Moreover, the optional subject of “European Language and Culture” is offered in English. During the lesson, students deepen their cultural and linguistic knowledge, through the study of British current affairs, literature and culture.

Why should I choose the Franco-Cypriot School?
The French-Cypriot School is a modern educational organization, based on values of the French educational system: equality, humanity, tolerance, coexistence, critical thinking and cultural diversity. At the Franco-Cypriot School, the student may join from Kindergarten, up to the threshold of the University, in a joint educational organization which constitutes an extension of its family where from a very early age it learns to welcome in his company, in his school, students from all over the world. An educational environment, where he will receive with patience, love and harmony all the tools to be ready for studies in any country of the world he may wish.
There are several parents who while they do not have a direct or indirect relationship with France, choose our school, and we see these children with great joy, speaking fluent French from an early age and our graduates joining distinguished universities all over the world.
What is the AEFE French network of schools?
The AEFE network of schools, of which the French-Cypriot School is a part, is the largest educational organization worldwide which includes 580 French schools in 139 countries and over 390,000 students. AEFE, being a pioneer in academic developments and standards, secures quality in the education of children and, in practice, contributes to the training of teachers. Being the first choice worldwide of diplomats, with joint access to the same academic education course is not a coincidence.
There are numerous academic courses that through the AEFE network our children acquire experiences that are difficult to find in other schools in Cyprus. For example, this year, 6 children of class B of the Lyceum have joined the student exchange program for one month abroad. At the same time, 25 children from Class Β of the gymnasium have been chosen to sing together with students from schools of the 27 member-states at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
A French-Cypriot school in Limassol too?
This year, the Franco-Cypriot School has triplicated the number of its students due to the dynamism of its educational team.
The registrations for the 2024-2025 academic year have begun and all those who wish may book an appointment by calling 25 355 900 to visit the school as well as to attend the lessons. For the next school year, the school intends to open new departments and reinforce its educational team.
Is assistance and support offered by the school?
One of the priorities of the French educational system is induction: Equal opportunities of access to the French educational system for everyone, regardless of mother language or learning difficulties. For this reason, access to special support programmes is offered to our students, according to the needs of each child. The teachers evaluate the needs of each student and recommend the most appropriate personalized programme.
THE TEACHING STAFF
A very large number of academics come from France, based on the agreement of the governments of Cyprus and France. The headmaster/mistress and the assistant headmaster/mistress also come from France, by detachment, and are responsible for the pedagogical policy and educational matters as well as observing the educational standards, legislation and regulations of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus. At the same time, teaching and other personnel from Cyprus and/or overseas are hired, which fulfils the criteria for appointment.
