Larnaca port workers strike over alleged arbitrary practices by Kition Ocean Port

Employees at Kition Ocean Port in Larnaca Port have launched an impromptu strike action.

The workers are protesting against what they describe as the company’s arbitrary practices, which, they point out, leave employees out of work and bring in external partners to carry out tasks at the Port of Larnaca.

Furthermore, the workers are calling on the managing company to respect the collective agreement. It is recalled that the employees went on strike last year during the same period for a week, demanding work regulation through a collective agreement, which was signed on May 31, 2023.

They also indicate issues regarding the treatment of employees and a change in the port management’s attitude towards them. The company, the workers note, “wants to fire some individuals without substantial reason.”
