The non-performing loans (NPLs) in the banking system remained virtually unchanged at around €2 billion in October, showing a decrease of only €2 million compared to the previous month and €300 million since the beginning of the year, in an environment of high-interest rates.
Specifically, according to the Central Bank data, the total amount of NPLs in October was €2.015 billion, compared to €2.017 billion the previous month. As a percentage of the total loans, NPLs at the end of October remained unchanged at 8.3%, compared to 9.5% at the beginning of the year. The total loans amounted to €24.17 billion, down from €24.36 billion the previous month.
The majority of red loans, amounting to €1.11 billion, belong to households, while business “red loans” amounted to €0.85 billion. The coverage ratio of NPLs was 50.8%.
Loans in arrears beyond 90 days in October decreased to €1.57 billion from €1.58 billion the previous month, representing 6.5% of total loans.
According to the Central Bank, restructured loans decreased to €1.82 billion in October from €1.86 billion the previous month, while restructured loans that continue to be classified as NPLs amounted to €0.91 billion, down from €0.92 billion the previous month.
