Inflation down to 1.6% in December

Additional slowdown is noted in inflation, according to data from the Statistical Service published today.

The Consumer Price Index declined to 1.6% in December, from 1.7% in November and 7.9% in December 2022.

For the period January-December 2023, the Consumer Price Index recorded an increase of 3.5% compared to the corresponding period last year.

The most significant change in economic categories, both compared to December 2022 and the previous month, was recorded in petroleum products, with rates of -7.2% and -5.3%, respectively.

Compared to December 2022, the most significant change was observed in the category of restaurants and hotels (5.4%).

In comparison to November 2023, the most significant change was observed in the category of transportation (-3.0%).

For the period January-December 2023, compared to the corresponding period last year, the largest changes were in the categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.7%), restaurants and hotels (5.9%), and housing, water, electricity, and gas (5.0%).
