President Nikos Christodoulides on Wednesday paid tribute to the former President of the European Commission Jacques Delors, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 98.
In a post on X, Christodoulides called Delors “a giant of European politics.”
“A true visionary for a more united and integrated EU and the founding father of the single market, his post said.
The President further added that Delors laid the foundation for the monetary union.
“Never has his legacy and vision for an ‘ever closer EU’ been more pertinent and valuable for our Union,” Christodoulides said.
Echoing his remarks, House President Annita Demetriou said “the EU has lost one of its most authentic visionaries and architects of modern European integration.”
“We honour the memory of Jacques Delors, the iconic figure who shaped the European vision and embodied European integration,” she said in a post on X.
“Our minimal obligation is to continue his legacy.”
