Airport passenger traffic in 2023 sets all-time record

Cyprus’ airports witnessed record-breaking numbers of passenger traffic in 2023, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis announced.

Specifically, Minister Vafeadis revealed that traffic at airports exceeded the total for the previous record year of 2019. He noted that traffic increased by 3% compared to 2019.

In his statement, the Minister emphasised that the above-mentioned increase in passenger traffic, with a positive impact on the economy and tourism of Cyprus, is the result of the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Hermes Airports, and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

A crucial role in this outcome was played by the increase in flight frequencies, and the expansion of the network of Cypriot airports through the involvement of new airlines and routes, Vafeadis noted.

This year, 157 routes were offered by 56 airlines, providing connectivity to 39 countries.

Finally, the announcement notes that the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works wishes to express gratitude once again to his collaborators and all stakeholders who contributed to this effort. He reassures that efforts will continue to further enhance Cyprus’ connectivity and improve passenger service levels through Larnaca and Paphos airports.
