President expresses concern over amendments to foreclosures legislation

President Nikos Christodoulides has voiced concerns over proposed amendments to legislation regarding foreclosures, without ruling out the possibility of referring the laws back if their philosophy changes.

“I am concerned about any modifications that may not lead to the desired results. Amendments that are not made to serve those who genuinely need it” noted President Christodoulides.

As he stated, “There are strategic defaulters who exploit any delay that exists, and there are others – our fellow citizens who are in genuine need.”

The President of the Republic emphasized that he is closely monitoring public discourse and party statements, expressing hope that a result conducive to law enactment will emerge during the vote.

“In a different case, I cannot sign something that will jeopardize the country’s economy. When we jeopardize the economy, the credibility of our country will face such problems that will have cascading negative effects, either on the targeted social policies we want to promote or on issues such as education, health, and more,” he concluded.
