Health Minister Popi Kanari on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with her Maltese counterpart Christopher Fearne, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of health. The Mou was signed on the sidelines of the EU’s Health Council in Brussels.
A significant part of the agreement revolves around the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the pharmaceutical sector. Specifically, the bilateral collaboration includes issues related to pricing and reimbursement of pharmaceutical products and ensuring people’s universal access to medications.
The MoU also addresses the need to maintain healthcare quality without jeopardising the sustainability of national healthcare systems and provisions for joint procurement of certain limited-need pharmaceutical products.
“The MoU we signed today confirm the intention of the two countries for further cooperation on matters of mutual interest in the healthcare sector,” Kanari said.
“It constitutes an important tool in the hands of both countries, reinforcing their capabilities for exchanging expertise, promoting standards and strategic measures, collaborating, and ensuring equal access to high-quality healthcare services and medications.”
