Labour MP Bambos Charalambous suspended over conduct

Britain’s shadow foreign office minister and Labour MP Bambos Charalambous has been suspended after a complaint over his conduct, it emerged on Friday.

Charalambous, raised in London to Cypriot parents, issued a statement saying “I am aware that there is an allegation that requires investigation by the Labour Party. It is right and proper that the process is allowed to take place. I will cooperate fully and play my full part.”

He added it was “not appropriate to say anything further at this time.”

As a result of the complaint against him, Charalambous, who is MP Enfield Southage, has been “administratively suspended” from the party while an investigation into the allegations is set to begin.

Consequently, he is suspended from the whip in the House of Commons.

The Guardian, which broke the story as an exclusive, said Charalambous stood down from his frontbench role on the shadow foreign affairs team.
