As of 1st of January 2023 the decree which sets the minimum initial monthly gross salary to €885 for every employee who is working on a full-time basis comes in effect.
The decree also provides that the employee who follows a continuous 6-month employment with the same employer will see his/her gross monthly salary increased to €940.
However, the non-payment of the national minimum wage on an hourly basis and the non-inclusion in the decree of the working hours it covers has prompted the anger of trade unions according to Philenews.
Not only trade unions have not given their consent to the decree but private sector companies have also raised a number of questions themselves.
Head of the Cyprus Payroll Management Association (CPMA) Theodoros Mantis told Philenews they have recently received dozens of phone calls and emails from its members businesses.
And that they ask for clarification on how the decree is implemented as regards working hours.
