Heavy rain causes flooding in Paris metro station

Heavy rain hit Paris, France on Tuesday (August 16), causing flooding in metro stations.

Social media video shows Victor Hugo metro station flooded with water running down platforms as passengers walk downstairs.

The RATP transport organisation said several metro stations in the city were inundated with water.

The torrential rainfall came after a recent heatwave across France and Europe.

Meteo France reported that the equivalent of one month’s worth of rain fell in the space of an hour.

French weather services reported that the level of the River Seine had risen by 35 centimeters.

The Paris fire service issued warnings instructing residents to stay indoors.
